High Ropes Course

FACE 2 FACE

This course is delivered at various sites around Queensland and is delivered over a 3 month period. Each course consists of 2 practical weekends.

RPL

These units can be obtained via RPL if you are currently working in an outdoor recreation environment and have access to experienced outdoor leaders with Abseiling qualifications who would be willing to vouch for your skills.

High Ropes

High Ropes is an excellent tool for outdoor leaders to help student learn teamwork‚ communication and problem solving skills. This course will provide (or give you a chance to refresh) the skills and knowledge required to guide a group of participants on an high ropes course. It has been designed to provide opportunities for experienced leaders to move through the course quickly or for beginning leaders to be able to take the time to consolidate their skills before assessment.

As with all of our courses we pay special attention to how this activity can be used educationally by paying specific attention to teaching strategies, active reflection methods and how to help your group members transfer their learning to everyday life.

The course is run over 2 days and covers:

  • basic ropes skills
  • course types and setup method
  • rescue methods
  • group management
  • teaching and reflection strategies

Learning Outcomes:

  • SISCRP302A - Conduct a High Ropes Session
  • SISOABL301A - Assist in the facilitation of adventure-based learning activities

Vertical Rescue Course

FACE 2 FACE

This course is delivered at various sites around Queensland and is delivered over a 3 month period. Each course consists of 2 practical weekends.

RPL

These units can be completed via RPL if you are currently working in an outdoor recreation environment and have access to experienced outdoor leaders with a qualification in Vertical Rescue who would be willing to vouch for your skills.

Working at height can provide some excellent opportunities for students to learn teamwork, communication and problem solving skills. Vertical Rescue skills are important as they allow you to deal with any unexpected situations that may arise safely and confidently. This course will provide (or give you a chance to refresh) the skills and knowledge required to perform rescues at height. It has been designed to provide opportunities for experienced climbers to move through the course quickly or for beginning leaders to be able to take the time to consolidate their skills before assessment.

As with all of our courses we pay special attention to how this activity can be used educationally. Paying specific attention to teaching strategies, active reflection methods and how to help your group members transfer their learning to everyday life.

The course is run over 2 days and covers:

  • Setup of Rescue Anchors
  • Personal Abseiling
  • Ascending a rope
  • Rescue of an injured participant on a vertical surface
  • Rescue of an unconscious participant on a vertical surface

RPL

Both EQ and private school teachers may apply for a Recognition of Prior Learning for the competency SISOSNK403A Instruct Snorkelling Activities. This accredited short course is designed to give successful participants the skills and knowledge to plan, instruct and evaluate practical snorkelling sessions for your students.

This course is designed to enable participants to achieve the skills and knowledge required to conduct a range of snorkelling activites in confined and or open water conditions. This short course may also apply to outdoor recreation leaders working for outdoor education or adventure providers, volunteer groups, not for profit organisations or government agencies.

If you are looking for a snorkelling qualification to allow you to meet Education Queensland’s Risk Management guidelines (CARA) this course is for you. The training has been specifically developed for teachers and outdoor leaders delivering snorkelling activities to school students.

This course can be delivered at various sites in SE Queensland and is delivered via a 1 day course.

Provide First Aid – HLTAID003 is the National Standard in First Aid and includes HLTAID001 Provide CPR along with extensive first aid management training and practice.

Flat water canoeing is an excellent tool for outdoor leaders to help students learn teamwork, communication and problem solving skills. This course will provide (or give you a chance to refresh) the skills and knowledge required to guide a group of canoeists on flatwater.

As with all of our courses we pay special attention to how this activity can be used educationally by paying specific attention to teaching strategies, active reflection methods and how to help your group members transfer their learning to everyday life.

The course is run over 5 days and covers:

  • basic skills of canoeing
  • deep water rescues
  • navigation
  • group management
  • teaching and reflection strategies

This course will consist of:
  • precourse work,
  • attendance at a 3 day training course (Friday - Sunday),
  • a project and practice to be undertaken in your own time and,
  • a final 2 day overnight assessment weekend.
