This course is delivered at various sites around Queensland and is delivered over a 3 month period. Each course consists of 2 practical weekends.

These units can be obtained via RPL if you are currently working in an outdoor recreation environment and have access to experienced outdoor leaders with Bushwalking qualifications who would be willing to vouch for your skills.

SISSS00015 Bushwalking Guide Controlled Environment Skill set

Bushwalking is an excellent tool for outdoor leaders to help students learn teamwork, communication and problem solving skills. This course will provide (or give you a chance to refresh) the skills and knowledge required to guide a group of bushwalkers on overnight hike.

As with all of our courses we pay special attention to how this activity can be used educationally by paying specific attention to teaching strategies, active reflection methods and how to help your group members transfer their learning to everyday life.

The course is run over 4 days and covers:

  • overnight camping skills
  • navigation
  • bushwalking skills
  • group management
  • teaching and reflection strategies

This course will consist of:
  • precourse work,
  • attendance at a 2 day training course (Saturday - Sunday),
  • a project and practice to be undertaken in your own time and,
  • a final 2 day overnight assessment weekend.

Those wishing to guide bushwalking activities in controlled environments.

If you are currently working in the Education or Outdoor Recreation Industry and want to update your skills, we can work with you to help you gain your Cert 4 in Outdoor Leadership. The course is provided through a mix of face-to-face and online learning.  We specialise in helping teachers, outdoor leaders and youth workers upgrade existing Outdoor Recreation qualifications to a Certificate 4 or help them convert existing experience and skills into formal qualifications.

RPL

If you are a Teacher or Outdoor Recreation Leader with extensive experience in the outdoors, feel free to contact us about undertaking an RPL process to obtain your Certificate 4 in Outdoor Leadership. You will need to be currently working in an outdoor recreation environment and have access to either; experienced outdoor leaders with qualifications in Outdoor Recreation that are willing to vouch for your skills, or be able to come to one of our Adult Short Courses to allow us to validate your skills.

Our Certificate 4 in Outdoor Leadership is written specifically for teachers and outdoor recreation leaders currently working with young people using outdoor activities to help them achieve educational and personal developmental outcomes.

SIS30413 Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation

SIS30413 Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation is the entry level qualification needed to lead groups of participants in outdoor recreation activities.

If you are interested in gaining qualifications to work in the Outdoor Recreation/Education industry, we can develop a training plan for you. Your plan will let you know:

  • the units you need to complete to receive your qualification
  • the cost and payment plans
  • suggested training dates

RPL

If you already have extensive experience in the guiding people in the outdoors and are currently working in an outdoor recreation environment, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to obtain all or part of SIS30413 Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation. Contact us for more information.

SIS30413 Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation will provide you with the skills you need to lead groups in the outdoors.  The volume of learning for a Certificate III is typically one to two years according to the Australian Qualifications Framework.

This course is made up of self paced online training, and face-to-face training and assessment weekends.
