The training and assessment is delivered in a four-day block of training and two separate overnight canoeing trips in two different locations.

RPL

If you already have extensive experience in guiding people on canoeing trips and are currently working in an outdoor recreation environment, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Contact us on 0436 837 851 for more information.

This course applies to skilled outdoor recreation leaders who lead and supervise dependent participants in canoeing activities in moving water up to Grade 1 rivers.

Delivery Model

The course is delivered via a blended format which includes face-to-face training blocks, online learner resources and assessments, written assignments and assessment via direct observation in the field in a real or simulated work environment.

Face to Face Training

You will be required to attend a four-day block of training and canoeing trips in two different locations. Please refer to the Course Calendar for the dates these will be held.

Location

All training days are based at Tallebudgera Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre at North Palm Beach on the Gold Coast. Assessments take place not more than 1.5 hours from the Centre at various locations throughout Northern New South Wales & Southeast Queensland.

Course Requirements

In order to be able to complete this course successfully, you will need:

  • a computer and internet access to complete assessments
  • suitable sunsafe clothing for all practical tasks
  • suitable wet shoes
  • a moderate level of fitness
  • to be comfortable in moving water
  • to be comfortable in remote bush settings
  • basic outdoor equipment, including but not limited to a sleeping bag, waterproof and breathable rain jacket, polypropylene or woollen thermal wear.

Cost

The cost of this stand-alone course is $1,390.

If you are enrolled in the full SIS30169 Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership qualification, these Units of Competency are included in the cost of the full course. If you are a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Adventurous Journey Supervisor you may be eligible for a discount. Contact us for more information.

Participant Numbers

All face-to-face training and assessment blocks will run subject to minimum numbers and confirmation that the session will be going ahead will be sent two weeks prior to each scheduled session.
