RPL

SIS30619 Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to work as an outdoor recreation leader who leads and supervises dependent participants in recreational activities. These leaders have technical skills in a variety of recreational activities and have well-developed leadership skills to manage group participation, cohesion, operational logistics, risks and problems as they arise. They may work in commercial, not-for-profit and government organisations in a range of settings including indoor centres, outdoor adventure learning centres, camps or activity sites in the field.

Delivery Model

The qualification is delivered via a blended format which includes face-to-face training blocks, online learner resources and assessments, written assignments and assessment via direct observation in the field in a real or simulated work environment.

Location

All training days are based at Tallebudgera Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre at North Palm Beach on the Gold Coast. Assessments take place not more than 1.5 hours from the Centre at various locations throughout northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland.

Duration

The volume of learning of a Certificate III is typically 1 – 2 years according to the Australian Qualifications Framework. The length of time it will take to complete this qualification will depend on which activity specialisations you choose and how quickly you complete the online components. It is possible to complete the course in one year if you are able to book into three different activity specialisations according to the Course Calendar.

Activity Specialisations

The three Activity Specialisations in this qualification are:

  1. Bushwalking
  2. Top Rope Climbing on Artificial Surfaces
  3. Canoeing

These activity specialisations can also be undertaken as separate, stand-alone leadership courses.

As Tallebudgera OEEC is a Queensland Government school, the RTO is not eligible to become a Skills Assure Supplier so is unable to provide services subsidised by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training. This includes VET in Schools funding, the User Choice Program, apprenticeships or traineeships.

Participant Numbers

All face-to-face training and assessment blocks will run subject to minimum numbers and confirmation that the session will be going ahead will be sent two weeks prior to each scheduled session.

Course Requirements

In order to be able to complete any of the courses successfully, you will need:

  • a moderate level of fitness
  • a computer and internet access to complete online assessments
  • to be comfortable in remote bush settings
  • to be comfortable with heights
  • to be comfortable in moving water
  • suitable sunsafe clothing for all practical tasks
  • suitable wet shoes
  • suitable climbing shoes
  • basic outdoor equipment, including but not limited to a sleeping bag, waterproof and breathable rain jacket, polypropylene or woollen thermal wear.

  2. You will be contacted by your Trainer who will discuss training options with you and ensure the course is appropriate for you.
  3. You will then be sent an Enrolment Form and additional information depending on the activity specialisations you have selected.
